AS400 Forms Printing
Forms printing can be accomplished many ways through RPM Remote Print Manager. RPM will allow you to line up your printing data to the actual pre-printed check or form.
Check Printing
Check printing can be accomplished by using a RPM text type queue. A Windows custom paper size can be created and then use the Text queue’s “Lines per inch” and “Characters per inch” options to scale the font to fit the custom paper size. This is a great resolution when changing from a Dot matrix printer to a Laser printer, especially if the file is formatted for a Dot Matrix printer. There are various other forms as “Bill of Lading” and special “shipping invoices” that a RPM Text type queue can format the data to fit.
Postscript Files
Postscript files that are preformatted with a form, like Ezprint generates, can be printed through a RPM Raw type queue. The unique functionality of the RPM Print Data Options allows an escape sequence to be inserted in a pre-formatted file to change the output tray, etc.
There are various Windows forms generator applications. These forms generators can be used in conjunction with the RPM” Filter type queue“.
- RPM receives the incoming data
- Calls the forms generator
- Passes the incoming data to the forms generator for processing.
The RPM “Filter” queue can also write the incoming data to a specific watch folder with a specific file name. An application can now pick up the file and apply further processing.
Octotools Eliminates the need for Pre-printed Forms
OctoTools, a new product from JBM Systems, offers iSeries users automation of forms design, electronic distribution, report bursting, and output management for electronic documents on iSeries, Linux, and Unix platforms.
OctoTools consists of two modules. OctoDesigner is a forms designer with a front-end GUI that features automatic dynamic text and forms merging, drag-and-drop text boxes for dynamic and static text and data placement, and a single design template that enables output to PDF, PostScript, and PCL printers. The second module is OctoToolsRTE (Run Time Engine), a runtime print engine that offers Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) output with optional Acrobat 128-bit encryption. The encryption feature is designed to let each user or group have a unique encryption key. OctoTools can also output 25 different barcodes, including POSTNET and 2-D PDF417.
OctoTools helps users eliminate preprinted and multipart forms, automate batch processing and distribution of forms and reports, make data available electronically via PDF files, and integrate e-mailing, Web posting, and document archiving with report data. OctoTools is compatible with several major application servers and enterprise resource planning applications, including WebSphere, PeopleSoft World, and SAP R/3.
